A Golf Experience of a life time

There are few times in one's life when you can experience an activity that holds you spellbound. January 19th was one of those days.  The temple and area missionaries were invited to "The World of Golf" for a golfing lesson from three LPGA members.  These three (single) young ladies, Reeve A. Nield, Laurette Marits and Cecille Lundgreen are all members of the church.  They have been on the LPGA for some time.  Laurette and Cecille play while Reeve acts as their coach.

Cecille is the national champion from Norway and Laurette is a champion from Zimbabwe.  Cecille is a convert of about 10 years and her story is remarkable.  She spends her own money to take her YW Laurels to General Conference every other year.

Along with their golfing all over the world, they are involved in humanitarian work in Zimbabwe.  Their organization is called "EYES 4 ZIMBABWE."  They provide medical surgery for youth who have seeing problems.  They go about recruiting doctors and others to donate time and funds towards this project.  They also help young missionaries called from Zimbabwe with their first mission clothing which includes a suit, shirt, shoes and all the fixings.

These three are remarkable young women, doing a remarkable job in helping the needy in Zimbabwe.  They are also a remarkable threesome when it comes to representing the church.  Everywhere they go they do Temple and missionary work by talking about and representing the standards of truth as taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It was so fun to meet them in the temple here; they tried to do 2 Endowment sessions each day during the week that they were here. Everywhere the golf tour takes them, they invite Senior missionary couples and/or local church leaders to free golf lessons with them!

Note:  Reeve Nield's parents lived in Zambia when I served there 48 years ago.  Reeve had not been born at that time so I only knew her older sisters.  Her father Redge Nield was "Mr Rugby" in South Africa back in the late 50's and early 60's. A wonderful family that I came to admire in so many ways.  They subsequently moved to Zimbabwe after the fall of Zambia and have lived there ever since.

Here are some pictures of these great women and some of us with them on this golf outing.

  3. Cecile, Laurette, and Reeve sound pretty amazing. Golfing around the world, and yet they are still dedicating time for humanitarian/missionary work is impressive and inspiring. By the way, the pictures you took are nice too!
